WiNetworks and Sequans Deliver World's First Mobile WiMAX
Wave 2 Ready Base Station
Sequans' new Moible WiMAX base station ASIC provides foundation
for WiNetworks' Win-Max Compact Base Station
Cupertino, Calif. and New York, NY

SEQUANS Communications, a leading WiMAX chipmaker,
and WiNetworks, an innovative WiMAX systems provider, announced
the
availability of WiNetworks’ WiN7000 Compact Base Station based
on Sequans new SQN2130 Mobile WiMAX base station ASIC. Sequans is
the first WiMAX chipmaker to develop a single MAC & PHY chip
optimized for Mobile WiMAX base stations, and WiNetworks is the
first to use it to bring a Mobile WiMAX base station to market.
The WiN7000 base station is part of WiNetworks Win-Max™ product
line of Mobile WiMAX systems.
WiNetworks will be deploying the new WiN7000 Compact Base Stations
throughout North America, Europe, and the Far East, with commercial
deployment beginning in Q4 2007. The WiN7000 base stations deliver
high performance as a function of Sequans unique MIMO technology,
mimoMAX™, and three output power levels: low output power
for unlicensed spectrum regulation, medium output power for standard
regulation, and high output power, featuring twice the standard
power for larger, low density cell areas. WiNetworks’ WiN7000
is a one-box, all-outdoor, compact design that can be installed
on poles, walls, or street lamps, reducing operator CAPEX and OPEX.
“
Sequans’ new ASIC has enabled us to build low cost, low power
consuming base stations with high performance,” said Effi
Atad, WiNetworks CEO. “The chip provides the flexibility and
power to serve up to hundreds of simultaneous users with high throughput,
yet it is cost-effective for our compact design and low power where
we need it for unlicensed spectrum. We’ve been working with
Sequans using their SQN2110 FPGA platform and the transition to
the SQN2130, using the same software, has been very smooth. Sequans
was the right choice for our Win-Max Compact Base Stations and the
right choice for the market.”
“
WiNetworks is building WiMAX systems of great value to operators,” said
Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “They have evaluated market needs
with attention to what will really be successful in the market and
the result is Mobile WiMAX systems with highly cost-effective performance.”
WiNetworks’ Win-Max product line operates in the 1.x, 2.x,
and 3.x GHz frequency bands and includes base stations, CPEs, and
relay stations all based on Sequans chips (SQN1130 for CPEs and
SQN2130 for relay stations and base stations).
The SQN2130 base station ASIC is a full 802.16e-2005 MAC and PHY
baseband solution, supporting 2X2 MIMO (2 Tx and 2 Rx, Matrix
A and B), and delivering high throughput performance as a function
of Sequans’ unique architecture and patent-pending mimoMAX™ technology.
It is scaleable and can fully support the manufacture of any size
base station—femto, pico, micro, or multi-sector macro with
no compromise of features, functionality, or performance.
